Barcode Help

I need some help setting up a barcode in a field called bardode.
Do I need an additional extension or will aspmaker create the barcode for me?
I have three fields name, surname, barcode
I want the barcode to indicate the details from the 2 fields.
Do I need external files?
Must the barcode field be set to an image or text?
Any help appreciated..
